Posted - 06/11/2005 : 15:47:16 A joint tasting sounds like a great idea.
I am also happy to confirm that the fermentation of our 'single variety' gallon of Somerset Cooking Apple Brew (SCAB) is now fermenting nicely after taking much longer than the other vessels to start. It's thrown one hell of a lot of sediment already.

Posted - 26/10/2005 : 13:12:48 When I got up this morning the entire downstairs of my house stank of fermenting cider. I'm sure it didn't smell that bad last year??!!

Posted - 25/10/2005 : 20:06:22 Fantastic! Praise the gunk! Very good news that the barrel outside has taken cos that was the riskiest, lets hope for a warm-ish few days where things can progress nicely.

Yes folks we have lift off. Whilst putting my bike back in the shed after cycling home from work, I noticed a strong appley smell coming from the vicinity. On closer inspection of the barrel, the cotton wool bung had lifted and a large amount of apple based gunk had protruded from the hole.
I then came indoors and checked the white fermenter and that too has gunked up at the top and dislodged the cotton wool. The demijohns are still yet to show any activity but it can only be a matter of time now.

Posted - 24/10/2005 : 09:34:35 Has anything happened so far? My hands are still brown and fermenting nicely so i'll keep you regularly updated on how they progress.
So we got about 140 pints and were finished and tidied up by 3pm on saturday. If we had as many apples this year as we'd had other years we could have easily topped 600 by the time the weekend was out.
