Posted - 19/11/2003 : 14:17:29 Good news: You now get 6 bottles for a tenner instead of 4!
Bad news: One of the extra bottles is Strongbow.
Also included are: Stowford Press, Old Rosie, Westons Original (all by Westons), Scrumpy Jack, and MerryDown Classic. Anyone had the MerryDown? Don't think Ive tried this... If its not up to much, Id recommend asking relations to buy you 3 big bottles of Westons for a tenner instead! Merry Christmas!

Posted - 17/10/2005 : 14:36:17 Its that time of year again and the cider selections are back! A vast improvement in taste terms this year, even tho its quite boring - BHS's entire 6 pack of cider are made by Westons - an Organic one, 2 Stowford Presses, An Old Rosie, Vintage, and another that i couldnt read properly. I dunno how much it was.
They also had several other gift packs available, 6 lagers of the world for those who dont like cider, 6 ales for those who prefer something less fizzy, 6 mystery ales without labels for people who like ale but dont want to know they are drinking something called Old Cock before they put it in their mouth, and 6 alchopops in a selection called "not for boys" for Smithy.

Posted - 26/11/2004 : 10:53:23 Merrydown, it comes from the Eastern Counties, and is therefore a cousin of French Cidre, it's also made from a mix of dessert and cooking apples, as opposed to traditional cider apples, it is a bit fizzy, but it's better than Strongbow.
And you will know us by the trail of empties.... |

Posted - 26/11/2004 : 09:42:56 Terrible news, BHS have completely given up on trying to make a decent pack of cider this year and have come up with the most boring, unadventurous and disgusting cider selection ive ever seen. This year's line-up: Blackthorn! Strongbow!! White Lightning!!! Scrumpy Jack! K! and another that i can't remember but it was crap too. Im disgusted! This is really dissappointing to see, considering 2 years ago their cider selection was really impressive, and last years was pretty good despite introducing Strongbow.
Anyone up for staging a protest outside Bristol BHS tomorrow?
I am ANGRY!

Posted - 19/11/2003 : 16:05:30 Yes Merrydown did have a cheap cider a few years back that people drank in parks, it was really fizzy i think, and the one in the selection pack is different i think. They are an old company that have made some quality ciders over the years too, not sure what their current range is like though.
Don't reckon Strongbow is much more English than the Taff cider these days. I vote for the Thatchers too.

Posted - 19/11/2003 : 14:51:36 There is extra good news that you havent mentioned though - last year's pack included a "Taffy" cider maid in Swansea - the BHS pack has now been reclaimed for England! I also had a selection pack just of Westons last year which was good, although it included an Organic Cider which I used to try and poison Neil. Obviously the best use of your Christmas tenner would be 2 gallons of Thatchers though.

Posted - 19/11/2003 : 14:49:04 I wouldn't describe Merrydown as a drink for youngsters.
It is a white sparkling cider which has a classy appearance.
Strength is about 7.5 ABV i think. |
