To be fair, Evertone were never a very good side. They won the league once in the 80's and nothing since. I don't think the fact that Liverpool are a larger club can be argued in any way, like it or not you're talking about a world famous club that has won 5 European Cups and the league more times than any other English club. Everton... well... haven't.
I agree with Phil on his other point though. Ships, you can't deny that Man Utd have been consistent in the league and Champions League for over a decade now. I think last year was the first time in about 5 years they didn't make the quarters. And even by finishing 3rd they are still miles ahead of Everton and Liverpool.
Chelsea as well have a good recent European and league history, even pre-Ambramovic they were still doing better than Liverpool on the whole.
Yes Liverpool won the Champions League and I'm glad they did but we still only have 3 top European sides in this country. If you had the ultimate test of a European league, Liverpool wouldn't feature amongst the front runners. Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd probably would.

Congratulations to Liverpool for a fantastic performance and result against Real Betis in this weeks Champions League. Good luck to the most successful English club on sunday when they play the biggest Premier fixture of the season against the Manc scum.
Also, it’s great to see Everton adapt to Europe so well!!!
p.s. How's your summer been Maddog?!

I have not seen any of the Everton game, but a 5-1 loss away in the Uefa cup is not good for English football, i really fancied Everton to be a force in that competition this year. However, a 4-0 home win is not impossible on a Eupean night.
As for Sunday, i fancy Liverpool for a win, Scholes to get sent off, and Horse-face to dive like a chump. |

I watched the game, and Everton were the better side in the first half, and they didn't deserve to conceed. At half time, Moyes would have been pretty happy, but in the second half, they just disintergrated. Total capitulation.
Make no mistake, Everton will be going out. A shame really after last seasons efforts. |

What can I say... absolutly awful second half.
As Rob said, Everton were the better side in the first half, and going in at half time 1-1 was bit unfair. Saying that in the second half they just fell to pieces and ended up getting the beating the performance deserved.
Overturning a 5-1 deficit, whilst unlikley, is not impossible. As they say, football is a funny old game, just remember Istanbul! |

Yes football is a funny old game, and Liverpool came from 3 behind in a single half, and Everton only need 4 in a full 90 minutes But i honestly can't see it happening.
I feel Istanbul was different for may reasons.
1. Firstly it was the final. 2. Liverpool had world class players on show who had the right "mentality", and who could create many "possibilities" 3. They had the best fans in the world behind them. 4. The Pope who recently died was a Liverpool fan, and was believed he performed miracles.

Can't argue with point 1, the rest are just lies though.
I'm no expert on scouse football, but I believe that despite the close links between Celtic & Liverpool that its actually Everton who are the Catholic club and Liverpool are Protestant, making it rather unlikely the Pope is/was a Liverpool fan? |

That is assuming he was a good pope. I think you'll find he supported Liverpool, liked roasts, dogging & piking. He was no different to an average Joe. |

I've caught a big fish
The pope was polish, and so is Jerzy Dudek.
Jerzy Dudek had the game of his life in that final....Coincidence? I don't think so. |

I think Dudek owed Liverpool at least one decent performance following all those crap ones!
Is he still at Liverpool or has he left to join a travelling circus? |

They said that on Sky yesterday as well and I nearly burst out laughing! There's no way that Liverpool Man Utd is the biggest fixture anymore, it hasn't been for years. Arsenal Man Utd over took it in the late 90s and now it's probably Arsenal Chelsea or maybe still Arsenal Man Utd because of the recent history. But either way, Liverpool are definitely not included!

On the basis of yesterday's game its about the worst premiership fixture - can't wait for the next one tomorrow!
Liverpoo - Britain's most successful club, Status Quo announced today as Britain's most successful band - who makes these things up!
Tonight should be better anyway - Arsenal v Everton, 7-0 last time, will they go higher or lower? I reckon a bit lower because of no Henry, maybe just 5? |
