OK, it's not cider, but as I'm quite partial to a drop of real ale and cycling, this event seems a winner...
From Green-events.co.uk:
"This is a non-competative (sic) mountain bike weekend with a choice of 15,25 or 35 miles each day.
All routes are waymarked and there will be free beer at all check points.
Rides are mainly on farm land and forest tracks, paths or open country, and as there is free beer on the rides all routes will be off-road. Cycles Irfon in Llanwrtyd Wells will be open for the hire of bikes and for purchasing those extra resources etceteras"
Never know - as this is hosted by free houses of Llanwrtyd Wells there may be some decentish cider. You also get a medal for completing woo-hoo!
It's in Wales by the way...

Ralph's Cider (Old Badland Farm, New Radnor, Radnorshire LD8 2TG
Tel: 01544 350304) appears to be about 10 miles away from where you're going, give hime a ring, there's got to be a pub nearby that sells it. Didn't Ralph's cider pick up all the big prizes last year?

Ralph (Owen) won a couple (at least) of the prizes at the Big Apple this year.
We're hoping to possibly visit him on our scootour to mid Wales next week (which, alarmingly, at the moment, has no cider stops planned! Don't worry though. Both Mrs I and I have remarked on the odd lack of cider provision on our holiday, and are just deciding whether we go via Hay (to sample the home made perry at the Clytha Arms) or via Pembridge (Dunkertons)).
In the small amount of research on Welsh Cider I've been doing, I've found that (a) there are not many welsh cider makers (b) a lot of the ones there are do not encourage farm sales (including Gwynt Y Draig, or however you spell it). I've found useful sites to be Marcher Apple Network; Scrumpy User's Guide, and the Welsh cider site (see Tharg's post above).
This does sound like a great cycle ride. I was reading last night how Lllanwrytd Wells (and please if anyone goes, let us know how you pronounce it) is a pretty ex-spa town and well worth a visit even if there was no free beer.
(I assume that if you are going, you'll be taking plenty of black market lard to barter with the locals) |

| Cheers Tharg. At the moment we know where we're going on the in-between bit (Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, New Quay), but are unsure about which way we'll go to get there and back. |
