Dont think Ive posted about this yet, but it was great to finally meet Tharg at the Slow Food Market a few weeks back, thanks for the ciders. The whole market was well worth a visit but definitely Orchards cider stall with some Dabinett (excellent to wash down your pigeon burger) and Cannock Perry on tap and some various bottled blended ciders, and loads of stuff really. After being forced to stop at many beer gardens on the way home in order to rest my heavy bag of cider bottles i acquired, ive forgotten the exact details of when the next one will be but i think it may be next sunday (4th September) is that right?

Doesn't Tharg look like one of the Village People. I thought it was uncanny. |

Nice to meet you too Gents, I'm glad you enjoyed the cider. I've certainly enjoyed my trips to Bristol, we get plenty of regulars who come back each month, and it's good to meet so many discerning cider drinkers. I'd like to think we've converted a few Str*ngb*w drinkers and introduced real cider to many who've not even tried cider before (there still seems to be an image problem). We'll be in Bristol next Saturday (on the Quayside?) and Sunday in our usual spot, so if any of you are in the area come and say hello. We are easy to spot - Keith wears a dress and I wear nothing but a cowboy hat and a winning smile.
And you will know us by the trail of empties.... |

I'll certainly try to get to the market on Sunday, after a weekend being forced to drink Str*ngb*w at Raeding im in desperate need of some good apple and pear beverages.
Could well be up for some ciders saturday Dave, we will be watching City at 12 and then England at 3, but im not sure where, if we end up watching the game in Nailsea it may be a struggle getting back into town but i'll give you a shout nearer the time.

Nice to meet Al Caholic on Saturday, it was incredibly busy on the Quayside and we sold out of stock by 2 o'clock. Interestingly, we sold more cider to women by a ratio of around 60/40 (one lady buying for her husband, asked for something that wouldn't make him too aggressive or randy). Saturday night we went to the Ross-on-Wye Cider Festival where there was an awful lot of perry on offer, pick of the bunch was Tom Oliver's - an incredibly smooth, creamy affair. Also met Dave Mathews, one of the new wave of Welsh cider makers. We had a good day yesterday too, less people around this time, but we sold more cider than usual. We've recently met a few enthusiasts who have either just started to, or are about to make their own cider. Pick of the bunch was a maniac at the Monmouth Show who described smashing the apples with logs, straining it all through an old t-shirt, and putting it in a dustbin with a couple of bags of sugar. He then sellotaped the lid on and left it for a couple of months. His wife described it as "a bit rough, but very strong".

That sounds like a pretty eventful festival, even more nutters than an average beer festival and that's saying something! Is this the same Dave Matthews who edited the last CAMRA Good Cider Guide? Encouraging to see lots of new people getting involved.
Couldn't make it this weekend sadly, mainly due to only waking up at 2pm on sunday and leaving things too late to get in there really. Next month tho...

It is the same Dave Matthews (Seidr Dai). Dave founded the Welsh Cider Society and is incredibly enthusiastic. Keith will be on his own next month, I'll be at the Forest Fayre in the Forest of Dean trying to convert my neighbours.
