Talking about Camra's Good Cider Guide on the other thread got me thinking what the lastest on their new guide was, that was meant to come out about 2 years ago... well, it looks like it'll be out soon as its listed on Amazon, who say its out on 1st October, and they have a picture now even so it must surely be ready soon. Been at least 5 years since the last one was out so its about time. I just wonder if HMZ make it in!? You can order it through this link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1852491957/hannahmorezid-21 (and we get a small cut for the cider-making fund if you do!)

There was some kind of dispute which meant another change of editor and more delays. I think they're still intending to publish something though, but by the time it comes out a lot of the information might be well out of date. Better than not pubishing it all, mind.

Yes I heard about that, i guess we'll see next weekend what materialises. The thing i liked most about the previous edition was the articles in the front about the Spanish Sidra, etc so hopefully there will be some more of these and they will still be pretty valid even if some of the info isn't.

The CAMRA Good Cider Guide is finally being launched this October ! The problem is that it has taken so long to compile & publish that it will allready be out of date . This is why it would be a good idea if everyone who uses this site also went on to the UK Cider wiki site . Their database is more up to date , with your help it will remain the best guide for cider & perry !

I ordered one so long ago I'd forgotten I'd done it. Didn't the author get right out of her pram about something and refuse to allow it to be published or something?

On getting back from holiday, I got an email from amazon to say they'd despatched a copy for me....to my work address....that I left before going on holiday :horsepoo

Oh well. I did say I'd meet up with them for a drink sometime soon.

You're meeting Amazon for a drink? I didnt realise they were real people, just thought they were robots.

So the guide actually exists and has been released then - has anyone got a copy yet?

Ah Caholic has a copy and i have now touched it so i can confirm that it is actually real!

Its ok, but the guide bit seems to be less detailed than the previous edition, without so many photos. Shockingly, i have been to none of the pubs they list in Somerset! No Nailsea pubs are in it this time, and not even any in Bristol i dont think! The article about North Spains cider scene is excellent tho, im definitely off to San Sebastian on my very next holiday.

I can corroborate Gent's story that the much fabled GCG does indeed exist and is not just a figment of Camra's imagination as previously thought. I have to say it's a bit of an anticlimax, I could of done a better job myself. Perhaps there's a market out there that needs to be tapped....

It's not very well cross-referenced.

It talks about some ciders (e.g. Saxon Cider. Can anyone tell me anything about that?) that aren't listed in hte list of producers at the back of the book.

It also lists "Taunton" as a brand of cider, but gives no details.

A lot of the pubs are described mainly in terms of what real ales they do. I think it's actually a guide to CAMRA beer pubs that happen to sell some cider, rather than pubs with good cider regardless of the beer quality/selection.

I havent even bought the book yet and not sure if i will, it seems most new places i visit i can track down a cider pub or two by doing some google searches beforehand anyway, the Spanish article is almost worth £7 on its own tho!

Saxon is discussed on the Sheffield thread: http://www.hannahmorezider.co.uk/new_forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1222

There is a Taunton Traditional that is sold in loads of Bristol cider pubs, its OK but nothing too special. I dont know who makes it exactly, Taunton Cider were taken over by Matthew Clark so perhaps they do?
