Glastonbury Festival 2004 Ticket Arrangements
22 Jan 2004
I’m pleased to announce the arrangements for ticket sales for this year’s Festival.

Last year tickets sold very quickly and as a result we had a huge problem with tickets being offered all over the place at three or four times their face value. Some of these tickets were traced back to outlets that we supplied but had no effective control over.

So this year the tickets will only be sold by the telephone ticketline, phone number 0870 830 2004, and through the website address www.aloud.com. There will be a link from the Festival website, www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk to www.aloud.com.

Tickets will go on sale at 8pm on the 1st April 2004.

Tickets will be restricted to two per person and each transaction will be vigilantly monitored to make sure there is no repetition.

All tickets will be personalised to prevent unauthorised reselling – and there will be checks at the gates.

Tickets will cost £112 + Booking Fee and Post and Packaging.

If you used cash to buy tickets in the past, don’t worry. Postal orders and cheques will be accepted, but only on the phone line. Credit and debit cards will be accepted on both the ticketline and for website sales.

The measures we are taking this year will result in a much fairer way to access the Festival, which promises to be as always, an incredibly joyful way to spend your mid-summer!

Plan B!

Been thinking about what would happen if disaster strikes and some or all of us don't manage to get tickets this year (particularly as I can't try to get them until a whole hour after they go on sale!). Other than ebay auctions, the most likely route of entry seems to be working, in particular stewarding through Oxfam.

This is the link all about it: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/what_you_can_do/events/stewards/glastonbury.htm

Basically it seems that if you work 3x8 hour shifts from the wednesday to the sunday you get in free. Better still, there is a chance that you can do these shifts between the preceeding sunday and the tuesday, and so not miss anything but still get in free, but they stress that there are only limited numbers for this so it can't be relied on.

Anyway, my point is that it seems you can apply to do this from now, but if you cancel before the festival (i.e. on having got a ticket) then it only costs you a tenner. But if you fail to get a ticket then you still have this as a back up, and/or means of saving £100+. Plus presumably applying now increases the chances of getting a stewarding place, rather than waiting til after the tickets are sold out.

Any thoughts anyone?

Sounds to me like it would probably be quite a good laugh doing it, obviously it would hamper your chances of seeing all the bands you wanted to see, and getting p!ssed with everyone else - but to what extent would depend on what shifts you got allocated. I'd guess you would still have a pretty good festival, but there is always the chance that it would crap up your Glastonbury and thats too big a risk to take for me. I'd be a bit concerned that as we aren't Oxfam volunteers and havent done it before we might not get given the best shifts. £115 for 24 hours work, plus training, briefing, etc isnt great money, i'd rather just pay for the ticket myself and relex all weekend i think personally.

I think we will be able to get tickets fine, surely there is someone who will offer to get you one? I dont think they will sell out as quick this year with touts having a harder time buying in bulk.

It says you can swap shifts, but obviously that would be dependent on finding someone willing to swap. I suppose the best you could hope for would be something like 8-4 on the Weds, Thurs and Friday, whilst on the other hand you might end up with say 4pm til midnight thursday, friday, saturday, and if they said you couldnt work p1ssed (as I expect they do) then there isnt much point going! Having said that this whole idea is as a fall back incase there is some sort of problem with tickets, which hopefully there won't be.

I have Plan C as well, which is even better: This involves getting a job as a litter picker, so again you get in free, but instead of taking all the rubbish to the recycling bit we take it up to our campsite and burn it all. And as we'll have some kind of official litter picker bib/ coat on then no-one will question what we're doing. I think they start at about 3/4 am, which is around the time we've been collecting for some of the most memorable fires so I reckon this could be the one!

Realistically what are they going to do once you're in? They can't force you to work! Why not sign up then not turn up to your shifts? I remember Stu saying something about them doing this at Orange, and you just have to pay for your ticket if you don't work.
